Tunsgate Quarter Guildford, the aspirational retail, leisure and dining destination located just off Guildford’s historic High Street, is delighted to announce that the popular artisan bakery, GAIL’s, will be treating Guildford shoppers to its delicious handmade baked goods from October 29th 2020.

GAIL’s Bakery first opened its doors in 2005, with the aim of making world class artisan bread accessible to all through its local bakeries.  Customers will find not only a wide variety of freshly made sourdough breads, but cakes, quiches and pastries, all handmade on the premises as well as a range of grocery products.  GAIL’s also boasts an award-winning house coffee blend, which, alongside its lunch offering, makes it the perfect place for shoppers to stop at any time throughout the day for refreshment to eat in or takeaway.

Tunsgate Quarter Guildford is already home to top lifestyle brands including The White Company, Nespresso, OKA, and Bobbi Brown.  GAIL’s Bakery will be situated on the mezzanine level of Tunsgate Quarter, at the entrance to Tunsgate, giving Guildford shoppers the chance to sit and relax in the beautiful art deco surroundings of Tunsgate Quarter, or in warmer months outside on the pedestrianised Tunsgate itself.

Claire Suggitt, Centre Manager comments: “It has been my greatest wish to bring a bakery and cafe into this wonderful space at Tunsgate Quarter, giving our customers the opportunity to stop for refreshment in the centre of our town, so I am absolutely delighted to welcome the GAIL’s team.  GAIL’s offers such a wonderful range of bread, cakes and pastries, and I very much hope that the Guildford and wider Surrey community will come and visit, whether it is to stop for refreshment or to buy their favourite loaf.”

Continued Suggitt.  “Being heavily involved in the local community, I am particularly keen to support GAIL’s zero waste strategy and will work closely with the team to identify local charities who would most benefit from parcels of unsold food at the end of the day.”

Commenting on this new venture, GAIL’s founder Tom Molner says: “We’re looking forward to baking for the community of Guildford.  We have identified a strong foodie culture in the town and Tunsgate Quarter offers us the perfect spot to operate both as a bakery and as a place for people to meet up for coffee or brunch.  We can’t wait to meet our new neighbours and get baking”

Owned by Merseyside Pension Fund and asset managed by CBRE, Tunsgate Quarter opened in 2018 and offers a desirable range of high-end retail brands including Seasalt, Design Vintage and Loaf.  Boutique gym operator GU1 fulfils the centre’s leisure option, supporting Tunsgate Quarter as an all-day destination with its gym and studio.

Tunsgate Quarter forms the heart of a £30.3 million redevelopment of Guildford’s historic Tunsgate area, and borders the cobbled High Street and the 11th century castle, as well as the recently pedestrianised Tunsgate Street with its collection of independent retailers.
