Support Local Photo Project

Meet the proudly independent people giving us good reason to stay loyal to local

Experience Guildford are delighted to be supporting a collaborative project between Growlers & Cans and Blackham Images, taking a closer look at the faces in front of some of Guildford’s most loved independent businesses. Many independent business owners became local heroes during lockdown, stepping up and going above and beyond to provide their services and products to the community and now it’s time for us to support them.

Across the UK some 65% of retail outlets are independent businesses, plus many pubs, bars, restaurants, hairdressers and beauty salons also operate as independents. Their financial contribution to the local economy in which they exist far outweighs that of their national or online counterparts, with an estimated 50p to 70p of every £1 spent with a small or medium-sized business staying in the local economy, compared to 40p in respect of larger businesses and as little as 5p for online traders.

Tell us what you love about Guildford:
I have lived in Guildford for most of my life, there is really nothing i can tell you that i dislike about Guildford. It has everything i need in the town and outside of town there are beautiful places to walk, cycle etc

It is a great place for people of all ages, from community centres to skate parks.

Being a part of the local community, and helping the community stay healthy is a great part of our lives and we have built some great friendships with some of our customers.

What’s next for the business:
During COVID we knew that there would be a great number of our customers that would not be able to visit us on a Friday and Saturday during lockdown so within a week of lockdown we produced an online delivery service to help the people of Guildford and this service has continued..we are very proud of this achievement and have had some amazing feedback on how we have supported the community.
