Guildford Shakespeare Company - All's Well That Ends Well

Saturday 12 October - Saturday 2 November 2019 St Nicolas' Church, Bury Street, Guildford The orphaned daughter of a doctor, Helena travels to Paris offering her services to the ailing Queen. After miraculously curing the 'incurable', she sets out on a journey across war-torn Europe to find her childhood sweetheart, Bertram. Part fairy-tale, part adventure, All’s Well That Ends Well is an enchanting story that draws on the classic themes of folk and fairy tales; with four extraordinary women at its heart. One of Shakespeare’s most intensely romantic plays, it is a powerful portrait of what it is to be unafraid to follow your dreams.

Adapted for six actors and featuring two pianos, played live on stage, our 43rd show is directed by long-term GSC collaborator Tom Littler (Love’s Labour’s Lost, Much Ado, Twelfth Night). Expect a magical and intimate production, drenched in t... read more

Dub Pistols - The Boileroom

Friday 1 November 2019 2019 is going to be off the chain for the Dub Pistols. With a new album (‘Addict’)
slated for release later in the year, a documentary and even their own festival, Barry
Ashworth’s merry gang of outlaw reprobates are simply unstoppable. The Specials and the 2-Tone movement brilliantly reflected the multi-racial nature of
the UK’s inner cities back in the day. The Dub Pistols are like a 21st century
equivalent — a riotous collision of drum & bass, hip-hop, ska, dub and punk.

One of the most exhilarating live bands on the circuit, these festival favourites have survived international terrorism, inter-band warfare and the wheels falling off their operation numerous times. Now a slickly drilled outfit, they’ve neve... read more

The Woodentops - The Boileroom

Friday 8 November 2019 The Woodentops are a national treasure. Propelled into the arena by John Peel in the early 1980’s and furthered by Rough Trade they produced a slew of high energy singles that leapt out of the radio. One of the stand out albums of the period, Giant, led to one of the best live Lp’s of all time ‘Hypnobeat Live’. A cut from this album ‘Why Why Why is the principle crossover anthem of the second summer of love that brought the club movement of the late eighties. David Bowie, a big fan of the band booked them to support, Prince tried, the Smiths threw them off their tour for being just too dangerous. its an incredible journey that has a bag full of little victories but no one mega hit that has dampened the joy of creation, as is usually the case. The fun is intact and the ideas varied and immediately likeable.

The Woodentops are proper, as time has proven and they 100% rock the house. http://www.woodentopsmusic.com/ Click for tickets!... read more

Steve Mason - The Boileroom

Monday 18 November 2019 “Song writing since the Beta Band had become something I did entirely alone, from the original
concept to the full demo and often in the studio it was just myself and a producer.
Although I enjoyed this purist approach for a long time, it really does not reflect who I am anymore
and is not something that really excited me. So I decided with this album that I wanted to get my live
band involved at every stage to break this cycle, and because I wanted to capture the energy that we produce when we play live shows. Modern recording techniques often are a kind of piece meal approach to recording (which I have done a lot of) but the energy and excitement is often lacking, so this time the band and myself worked on a collection of 12 songs over the course of last year.

Around July I felt that it was going well enough to approach a producer and I knew very early on who I really wanted to work with. After an initial meeting with Stephen Street and playing him some rehearsal room recordings, he took the job. I ... read more

G Live - Father Christmas Needs a Wee

Saturday 14 - Sunday 15 and Friday 20 - Tuesday 24 December 2019 Father Christmas is on his rounds...and he still needs a wee! At every house Father Christmas eats and drinks the tasty treats that have been left for him. But when he reaches number ten he realises that he’s forgotten to do something rather important and he really, really, really needs a wee! TaleGate Theatre Productions hit the perfect combination of witty humour, fantastic music and the extra sparkle for which they have become known in this fabulously funny and brilliantly bouncy musical adaptation of Nicholas Allan’s much loved book. This is a forty-five minute production followed by a meet and greet with the big man himself where the children will receive a Christmas present.

Hilarious and heart-warming, our answer to a traditional pantomime has kids (and adults!) rolling in the aisles, shaking their bellies like a bowl full of jelly - just like the main man himself! Click for further information and tickets!... read more
