Volunteers make a real difference at Guildford’s G Live.

More than 100 local residents volunteer their time at G Live every year, giving up their time so others enjoy can enjoy the numerous shows that take place at the state-of-the-art entertainment, conference and hospitality venue located in the heard of Guildford.

G Live’s Theatre Director, Tim Brinkman said: “I would like to thank all our volunteers for giving up their time selflessly for others. They make a huge difference, not only to the G Live family but to all those who attend our shows. I would also like to thank Voluntary Action South West Surrey who we work closely with.”

Volunteers who register with G Live act as ushers; checking tickets, staffing the cloakroom, directing people to their seats, selling merchandise and answering customer queries. They are required to volunteer at a minimum of two shows every month. In return volunteers receive mandatory training such as customer service, fire safety and manual handling.

Guildford resident, 50 year old Rachel Butler who has been volunteering at G Live for six weeks said: “I used to work in a customer facing job and miss it, so I thought I would sign up at G Live to volunteer. It has given me my confidence back and I am really enjoying being part of something quite big.”

Guildford resident, 55 year old Marcia Sorrell who has been volunteering at G Live for 18 months and also volunteers as a local hospice shop said: “Volunteering is really rewarding, there is a real sense of togetherness and being part of the community.”

Haslemere resident, 61 year old Nick Godden who has been volunteering at G Live for one year said: “I retired 18 months ago and decided I wanted to volunteer. It is great to be part of an organisation whose purpose is to provide enjoyment. I really look forward to volunteering, it is great meeting other volunteers, staff and customers and seeing them leave on a high.”

75% of G Live volunteers have volunteered at the venue for one or more years.
