The style-setting barber store team spent nine days at Queen’s Tennis Club in west London as official barber to the 2017 Aegon Championships, which ended on 25 June. But they barely had time to unpack their kitbags before hearing that Jacks of London has been judged one of the UK hair world’s finest for its business and creative acumen, making the shortlist in two categories of the British Hairdressing Business Awards and one in the coveted Most Wanted awards.
In the BHBAs, Jacks of London is in the final six for the 2017 Marketing title and one of six competing in the Male Grooming category, while head of the Jacks Art Team Steven Gasparetto faces off against four others in the Most Wanted competition for Male Grooming Specialist of the Year.
This summer was the second year in a row Jacks had been despatched to Queen’s and the Aegon tournament, traditionally seen as the main men’s curtain-raiser for Wimbledon.
As the competition’s official barbers, they tended to the hair and grooming needs of some of the tennis world’s biggest names, including world number 6 Marin Cilic, who made it to the final, only to be defeated by Feliciano Lopez.
The Jacks team must now wait until 11 September to see if they are winners themselves in the BHBAs and until 4 September for judgment in the Most Wanted contest.
It’s part of an incredible success story for the innovative barber brand, which is soon set to expand its reach by opening three new stores. MD Sue Whitehead, who has worked tirelessly to grow the company since setting up Jacks of London in 1995, said: ‘Our success has been built on an approach that’s about listening to what our clients want, and then providing it. So all our barber stores are man-friendly spaces, with big, comfy leather sofas, non-stop sports coverage and complimentary beer, as well as the best haircuts in town.’
